The destroyed residential complex in Irpin, located at Hostomel Highway, 24/1, was completed and put into operation in 2016. Before the full-scale invasion, it was home to 206 families.

The area where residential complex “Irpinski Lypky” was built was among the first to come under Russian shelling during the assault on the city. On March 2, 2022, a Russian missile strike severely damaged the building, leaving it scarred by shrapnel. The private housing sector across the street was completely destroyed.

Two weeks later, on March 16, 2022, incendiary shells set the upper floors of the residential complex ablaze. Due to ongoing hostilities, firefighters were unable to fully extinguish the flames in time. As a result, one of the most modern residential complexes in Irpin became one of the most heavily damaged by the war. Overall, more than 70% of the city’s social and critical infrastructure was destroyed during the battle for Irpin.

This location was frequently visited by international delegations, serving as a stark reminder of the brutality of Russian forces during their occupation of cities. Among the notable visitors were Ivan Malenica, Minister of Justice and Administration of Croatia, Manal Fouani, Acting Resident Representative of UNDP in Ukraine, Lilia Dabija, Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development of Moldova, Mike Pence, 48th Vice President of the United States, and Patrick Ollier, President of the Greater Paris Metropolis.

Initially, volunteers worked to preserve and stabilize the damaged complex. A year after Irpin’s liberation, the city authorities resumed efforts to reconstruct the building.
