About the location

In the spring of 2022 more than 100 Ukrainian defenders lost their lives to halt the advance of Russian forces toward Kyiv. This took place in Moshchun, a village where, after the battles ended, 80% of the buildings were found to be destroyed. Located across the Irpin River near Hostomel, to the north of Kyiv, it was here that Russian troops planned to construct a crossing over the river. However, they failed. He was rejected by combat units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. As a result, the enemy was forced to change their direction.

However, on March 5, Russian forces renewed their attempts to cross the Irpin River. The following day, they entered Moshchun.
To reinforce the 72nd Separate Mechanized Brigade, units from other brigades were deployed. Together, they reclaimed positions in Moshchun and destroyed the Russian crossing. The battles were fought despite the enemy’s superiority in both firepower and manpower.

A memorial was built at the site of the battle for Moshchun. Initially, it was visited by relatives of fallen soldiers, who later came together to organize memorial gatherings and maintain the site. Over time, more and more people joined their efforts. Today, it stands as The Memorial Angels of Victory, featuring informational steles, interactive terminals, and directional signs.
During their visit to Ukraine, a delegation from the Republic of Slovenia paid tribute to the fallen at the memorial. Among them were Mateja Prevolšek, Ambassador of Slovenia to Ukraine, Nina Mirosavljević, First Secretary of the Slovenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Blaž Masle, Deputy Head of Mission in Ukraine.

In 2024, The Memorial Angels of Victory was officially added to the State Register of Immovable Monuments and recognized as a cultural heritage site.
