About the place

The St. George's Church of the village of Sofipil has an interesting history. According to legends, it was originally built at the end of the 18th century in the village of Yurkivka and was moved to Sofipil in 1881. The church in Yurkivka was dedicated to St. Michael, and after the move, it became St. George's Church. It belongs to the rare Dnieper-type of Cossack wooden churches – simple and ascetic structures that could be easily relocated during raids.
