According to legends recorded by L. I. Pokhylevych, in the village of Ostriv at the beginning of the 18th century there was a small single-domed St Michael’s Church. Later it burned down, and a new, much larger church was built in its place.
As for the date this church was built, sources give differing information. The clergy records (a kind of chronicle kept at every church in the 19th and early 20th centuries) for 1836 state that the date of construction is unknown – “due to antiquity”.
