The “Bookshelf” mural is the first wall painting in Irpin. Volodymyr Karpliuk was the initiator of its creation. The “Bookshelf” is 5 metres high and 30 metres long.
The canvas for the mural is an old wall of municipal garages on Slovianska Street. Thousands of people pass by it every day: to work, to study, to the market. Of course, the brick wall of the garages did not lift the mood and spoiled the overall look of the street. And now, during their usual walks, people stop here, because it is no longer a wall but a bookshelf. Why did we choose exactly this picture? Because Irpin has a special relationship with writers. The history of our city is inseparably linked with the history of Ukrainian literature.
46 books by authors who lived and worked in Irpin appeared on the “shelf”. The artists painted them after real editions taken from the city library. The most famous Ukrainian book, Taras Shevchenko’s “Kobzar”, is depicted first. The artists began work with it on the eve of the celebration of Taras Hryhorovych’s birthday.
