In 1117, as the chronicles report, Prince Volodymyr Monomakh “founded a stone church to the holy martyrs Boris and Hlib on the Alta, where Boris’s blood was shed”. This church is known as the “Letska Bozhnytsia”. Over a long historical period the ancient church on the territory of Boryspil gradually disappeared. But the fact of its existence is of great importance for understanding the history of the city and the processes that took place in the political life of Kyivan Rus in the 11th–12th centuries. In 1989 everything changed, when Hegumen Sofronii was transferred to Boryspil and became the rector of the Boris and Hlib parish. Having rallied people, he began, to his own design, to build a church on a marshy wasteland right by the highway. The first service in the lower church of the Cathedral was held at Easter 1990, and after Trinity, services became regular. Today the Cathedral of the Intercession of the Mother of God is not only an adornment of the city but also the main church of the Boryspil Eparchy. The Cathedral has four altars: the central altar is consecrated in honour of the Intercession of the Mother of God, the right side chapel in honour of the miracle of the Archangel Michael at Chonae, the left in honour of St Nicholas the Wonderworker, and the lower church is consecrated in honour of the holy right-believing passion-bearing princes Boris and Hlib.
