Protection Church, UOC

In the centre of Trebukhiv stands the wooden Church of the Intercession with an attached bell tower. It was built in the early 20th century (1905–1911). Trebukhiv had a church earlier too, also a Cossack one, but it was pulled down during the church reform, when a struggle was waged against ethnic Ukrainian features in the architecture of the Orthodox church. But tradition is immortal and, fortunately, the new church has the same features as the destroyed one. The present building of the Church of the Intercession seems enormous. Enormous and simple, as if in its construction the builders were guided more by principles of rationality than by splendour and ornateness. This applies especially to the lower part of the church. But the relatively small domes (only five) and the upper tiers of the bell tower are decorated, accentuated with various colours, and the upper tiers of the bell tower are quite brightly adorned.
