10 Little-Known Places in Kyiv Region Worth Visiting in Autumn

Autumn is not only about pumpkin lattes and blankets. It is also the perfect time for short trips and unhurried discoveries of new places. If you think you have already seen everything in Kyiv Oblast, here is a list of 10 places that hardly anyone but the locals knows about. Grab a thermos, charge your phone and set off on an autumn adventure.

Socially responsible tourism – a new wave that changes everything

Travelling is a joy. But all these little-known places are not just a backdrop for photos. They are part of the locals’ lives. When you buy honey from them, rent a bike or leave a positive review on Google, you really help. Support local tourism. It is about supporting the communities that develop these places, about ecology and about preserving culture. By the way, if you are interested in social initiatives, take a look at the Slixa Blog post about support for the first women’s shelter in Rwanda. Such stories are inspiring and remind us that even commercial platforms can take part in great good deeds.

Scythian-period settlement, Khodosivka village

Just 20 minutes from Kyiv and you are at a place where the Scythians lived more than 2,000 years ago. The place is not heavily promoted, but it has a powerful atmosphere. Autumn fog and ancient burial mounds create a cinematic vibe. It is better to take a guide – without one it is hard to understand the history of this place. What you absolutely must do:

  • walk among the ruins that have stood here forever;
  • imagine a Scythian warrior walking along these paths;
  • take beautiful photos against the backdrop of the Stuhna River and the sun on the horizon.

Bucha Municipal Park – find your zen

Everyone has already heard about the central alleys of Bucha Park – little fountains, photo zones, cafés. But as soon as you turn left or right off the main route, you find yourself in a completely different world. The paths there are no longer so even, there are stumps instead of benches, and instead of music from speakers there is the rustle of leaves. In autumn it smells of mushrooms, smoke and real forest. It is perfect for a walk with a thermos of hot tea, for meditating or just for listening to yourself. By the way, many local photographers bring couples in love here – the photos come out like something from Pinterest, and there are almost no people around.

The quarry near Myhalky village – Ukraine’s own Côte d’Azur

This really is a place that could be filmed for an advertisement. Turquoise water, a pine forest all around and absolute silence. In September there is not the slightest hint of crowds. If you want to escape the city bustle, pack your backpack. It is great for a picnic or just lying around with a book. The main thing is to bring something warm, because it gets a little cold towards evening.

The old town of Vasylkiv – history under your feet

You know, this is a case where you do not need to fly anywhere to feel like you are in another era. The old centre of Vasylkiv has kept the spirit of the times before shopping malls and minibuses. Narrow streets, yellow leaves underfoot, and little houses with wrought-iron balconies that recall Lviv or even Prague.
If you are lucky, you will get to the local market, where they sell craft cheeses and homemade honey. And the local history museum has unique embroidered shirts and household items that you will not find in “mass-market” exhibitions.

Oleksandriia Park near Kaharlyk – forgotten chic

Not to be confused with the one in Bila Tserkva! Here everything is much more interesting and, frankly, more atmospheric. The ruins of an old manor entwined with ivy, narrow alleys where the trees form real tunnels. It is easy to imagine yourself as a fantasy hero here. Be sure to bring a camera. It is better to wear shoes you do not mind getting dirty.

Forest lakes near Liubymivka village

These lakes are not marked on tourist maps, but the locals know: if you make your way through the thicket, you end up in a real fairy tale. Clean water, a pine forest all around, and not a soul in sight. In autumn this place recalls Finnish lakes – only without the Finns. Take a blanket, coffee in a thermos, a soup thermos and your friends – and the day is automatically a success.

The stone bridge in Hrebeni village – a “retro” Instagram spot

Built back in the 19th century, this bridge looks as if Indiana Jones or at least someone from Netflix should appear here. Old masonry, steep banks, complete silence – autumn works its magic here. Nearby is the Stuhna River, with its history and character. You can walk along the bank or even fish (if you have tackle and patience).

The Museum of Trypillian Culture – a walk into the depths of millennia

It seems that Trypillian culture is something from a textbook. But here, in the village of Trypillia, it comes alive. A small museum where everything is done with love: from the exhibition to the guides, who do not recite memorised texts but are truly “on fire” about the subject. The atmosphere of the village itself is very meditative. It is easy to breathe and think here. After the museum, be sure to take a stroll to the Dnipro.

Sand dunes near Plakhtianka – Ukraine’s little Sahara

This is not Photoshop and not a photo montage. Yes, there are real dunes in Kyiv Oblast. Small, but picturesque. There is forest all around, so the contrast is simply cosmic. You can take photos that will look like they are from Africa, but without the flight. Autumn is the ideal time: the sun does not scorch and the air is fresh. Locals often ride bikes here – the routes are unofficial, but great fun.

Mount Pyvykha – a hike with a view

Officially it is almost Poltava Oblast. But in fact it is one of the must-sees for residents of Kyiv Oblast. The view of the Kremenchuk Reservoir is incredible. The route is easy but exciting. If you love hiking, take comfortable shoes and a thermos and go. At the top there is silence, a view for dozens of kilometres and a complete reboot of the mind. Perfect for putting your thoughts in order.

Kyiv Oblast in autumn is not only forests and Boryspil. It is hundreds of nooks where the soul rests and the eyes catch beauty. Choose any of these options and set off to meet adventure. And remember: the best places are not always the ones everyone talks about, but the ones that stay in your memory for a long time.
