Where to go in Kyiv Oblast in 2027: ideas for any time of year

Kyiv Oblast is often passed by on the way “somewhere further”, although within an hour or an hour and a half of the capital there are old parks, granite canyons and whole museum towns. We have put together places worth adding to your plan for 2027. There are both classics proven over decades and locations that have only recently opened their doors to visitors again. And if you want to travel right now, take a look at holidays in November: many of them are easy to combine with a trip around the oblast.
Spring: Bila Tserkva and “Oleksandriia”
April and May are the best time to visit the “Oleksandriia” arboretum. This landscape park of the late 18th century is covered in blossom in spring. The ponds, bridges and pavilions here look like a set for a historical film. The town itself deserves a separate walk: the Winter Palace, the Transfiguration Cathedral and the old market arcades in the centre. It is about 100 km to Bila Tserkva, so the trip fits into one day.
Summer: Bohuslav and the Ros canyon
In summer, head to the south of the oblast, where the Ros forces its way through granite rocks. The surroundings of Bohuslav are suited to picnics by the water, kayaking and photos on stony banks. On the way you can stop in Trypillia to see ceramics and reconstructions of dwellings of a culture several thousand years old. If you also want views, stop at the Dnipro bluffs near Rzhyshchiv.
Autumn: Pereiaslav, a town with two dozen museums
Golden autumn suits Pereiaslav best of all. It is home to Ukraine’s first open-air museum: about 300 monuments of folk architecture on 25 hectares, among them houses, windmills and wooden churches. A novelty worth returning for, even for those who have already been to the town: in summer 2026, after a break of almost 16 years, the 18th-century St Michael’s Church complex was reopened for tours. There you can see the interior of the church and the museum of the architecture of ancient Rus Pereiaslav. Do not miss the Museum of Shevchenko’s Will either – the house where the poet wrote his “Testament” in 1845.
Winter: the memory route Irpin — Bucha — Hostomel — Borodianka
Winter’s silence creates the right mood for a route that is important to every Ukrainian today. Memorials at the sites of the events of 2022, rebuilt streets and Banksy’s works on the walls of destroyed buildings tell the story of Kyiv Oblast better than any guidebook. At the end of winter you can set off for Pereiaslav again: the open-air museum traditionally celebrates Maslenytsia with pancakes, rituals and folk festivities.
Before you go
Check the opening hours of museums and the current security situation, and keep air-raid alert notifications on while on the road. Ready-made routes with maps are available on the oblast’s official tourism portal kyivregiontours.gov.ua.
