Where to go in Kyiv Oblast for the weekend: 9 places

To change the view outside your window, you don’t have to buy train tickets. Kyiv Oblast offers granite rocks above the Ros River, old parks, open-air ethnographic museums and quiet banks where you can spend a day without your phone. Most of these places are one to two hours from the capital, so a trip fits easily into a single Saturday.
The most convenient way to get there is by car: public transport to villages and natural sites runs rarely, and with your own schedule you will see more. If you don’t have a car, car rental for a day or a weekend solves the problem – we will explain how it works later, but first the main thing: where to go.
Before you go: three important tips
When planning your route, take wartime realities into account. Some sites change their schedules, forested areas may be closed to visitors, and during an air-raid alert it is worth knowing where the nearest shelter is.
- Check the opening hours of museums and parks the day before – on their official pages or by phone.
- Do not enter forests and fields away from marked paths: the risk of explosive objects is still present in parts of the oblast.
- Carry your documents, a charged phone and a supply of water – there may be a delay on the road.
Interesting places in Kyiv Oblast for a one-day trip
1. Yasnohorodka: an eco-park for families
About an hour’s drive to the west and you are among ponds, pastures and animals that you can feed by hand. The family eco-park “Yasnohorodka” is well suited for a trip with children: there is something to do for both little ones and adults.
2. Demydiv and the “XII Months” zoo
The northern direction, roughly 40 km from the city. A private zoo with spacious enclosures is the classic option when you ask yourself where to go for the weekend from Kyiv with preschoolers.
3. Vytachiv and the Trypillia bluffs
The Dnipro slopes south of the capital offer some of the best panoramas in the oblast. It is most beautiful here at sunset, so plan your return after dark and check the road in advance.
4. Bila Tserkva and the “Oleksandriia” arboretum
A landscape park of the 18th-19th centuries with pavilions, ponds and avenues. Allow at least three hours for a walk, and afterwards visit the historic centre of Bila Tserkva.
5. Pereiaslav
A museum city on the left bank. The main highlight is a large open-air museum of folk architecture with houses, windmills and churches from different corners of Ukraine. A convenient trip for a whole day.

Open-air museums are best explored without haste and with your own transport.
Where to go for a weekend from Kyiv with an overnight stay
6. Bohuslav and the Bohuslav granite outcrop
Here the Ros cuts through granite, forming rapids and rocky islands. A wonderful place for unhurried walks, photos and picnics. Nearby there are estates where you can stay overnight.
7. Buky Landscape Park
Another rocky place on the banks of the Hnylyi Tikych, often called the “Kyiv Carpathians”. In summer the rapids roar here, in autumn the slopes are colourful.
8. Mount Totokha near Medvyn
A hill with a view of the Ros valley in the south of the oblast. Just what travellers need who are looking for lesser-known interesting places in Kyiv Oblast.
9. Holiday camps by the water
If you simply want to relax, choose a camp by a reservoir or a river. Kyiv Oblast has plenty of options with small cabins, fishing and boat hire.
Ready-made car routes
So you don’t have to spend an evening planning, here are three proven combinations. Distances are approximate from the centre of Kyiv one way.
Route | Approximate distance | Duration | Who it is for |
Kyiv — Demydiv — Yasnohorodka | about 60 km | 1 day | Families with children |
Kyiv — Vytachiv — Trypillia | about 50 km | half a day | Lovers of panoramas and sunsets |
Kyiv — Bila Tserkva (“Oleksandriia”) | about 85 km | 1 day | Couples, park enthusiasts |
Kyiv — Pereiaslav | about 90 km | 1 day | History lovers |
Kyiv — Bohuslav — “Buky” — Medvyn | about 150 km | 2 days | Those who want nature and quiet |
Tip: it is worth turning the longest route into a loop – you drive to Bohuslav, stay overnight, and the next day return via “Buky”. That way you won’t have to drive the same road twice.
No car of your own? How to rent a car in Kyiv
Most of the places on the list are inconvenient to reach by minibus: there are few services, and from the stop you still have to walk to the park or the rocks. That is why for such weekends it is more convenient for Kyivans and guests of the capital to rent a car. For example, car rental in Kyiv at Getmancar works like this (site data as of October 2026):
- you can drive from the age of 18 with a category B driving licence; a passport and a licence are required, and the licence can be shown in Diia;
- a Ford Fiesta-class sedan costs from 1,200 ₴ per day, a crossover such as the VW Tiguan from 1,700 ₴;
- the size of the deposit depends on the class of the car, and renting a car without a deposit is possible with additional insurance;
- you can pick the car up at the office at 17 Dniprovska Embankment, or order delivery to your address;
- child seats and a GPS navigator are available on request.
Fuel is paid for separately: the car must be returned with the same level as when you received it. So before setting off, photograph the reading on the dashboard, and plan a refuel on the way back. Car hire in Kyiv for a day or a weekend often turns out cheaper than tickets and taxis for the whole family, especially when there are three or four of you.

With a car you can combine several places in one day.
What to take on the trip
The minimum set for a short trip around Kyiv Oblast: a power bank, a first-aid kit, water, a picnic blanket, comfortable shoes and an offline map in case of a weak signal. If you are travelling with children, take a change of clothes: near water you will almost certainly need it.
