The Enchanting Wonderland of Fine Art

When you have the chance to visit Yahotyn, be sure to stop by the Art Gallery. The road to the gallery leads through a wonderful park, which is still an adornment of Yahotyn today. Here Mykola Hohol (Gogol), Mykhailo Glinka, Yevhen Hrebinka, Vasyl Kapnist and the Psol sisters admired the beauty of nature and enjoyed the hospitality of their hosts. For three months Taras Shevchenko lived and worked at the Repnin estate.
The gallery is housed in the two-storey stone building that is the remnant of the former palace of Count Rozumovskyi and the Princes Repnin, from the late 18th and early 19th centuries. The Rozumovskyi Palace was sumptuous. Researchers of 18th-century architects suggest that Hodegard and A. Menelas may have built the Rozumovskyi counts’ estate to a design by M. O. Lvov (known for his wonderful palace complexes).
The Art Gallery, the art department of the Yahotyn Historical Museum (Kyiv Oblast communal institution), one of the best district art galleries in Ukraine, was opened at the end of 1983.
The two floors of the gallery contain 14 exhibition halls. The halls widely present Ukrainian art: works of painting, graphic art, sculpture and decorative art.
The Art Gallery has a collection of works by People’s Artists of Ukraine and laureates of the T. H. Shevchenko Prize, among them: Mykola Hlushchenko, Tetiana Yablonska, Anton Monastyrskyi, Mykhailo Derehus, Serhii Hryhoriev, Serhii Shyshko, Oksana Odainyk, Vasyl Zabashta and others. The gallery also has sculptural works by Serhii Kovalov and Ivan Honchar.
The true pride of the gallery is the most complete collection of works (more than 70) by the People’s Artist of Ukraine Kateryna Bilokur: paintings, watercolours, graphic works, sketches, early and unfinished works. Her famous “Self-Portrait”, created in 1955, is on display here. In the gallery you can see the artist’s own belongings: handmade brushes and the raw materials for making them (fur, small feathers, butterfly wings), and the paints with which Kateryna Vasylivna brought her vision of beauty to life on canvas. Her flowers, painted on canvas, seem to hang in the air and radiate light. “If we had an artist of such a level of mastery, we would make the whole world talk about her,” Pablo Picasso said of Bilokur.
Kateryna Bilokur’s works, like a magnet, draw the eye, enchant with their uniqueness and leave visitors indifferent to none.
The Art Gallery of the Yahotyn Historical Museum (Kyiv Oblast communal institution) gives unforgettable impressions to art lovers. Among the tens of thousands of visitors who admired the exhibition were many distinguished people: O. Honchar, N. Matviienko, B. Oliinyk, V. Yavorskyi, R. Nedashkivska, L. Kuchma, O. Sumska, V. Lytovchenko and many others.
We invite everyone to visit the Art Gallery of the Yahotyn Historical Museum (Kyiv Oblast communal institution) at: 65-b Nezalezhnosti St, Yahotyn, Boryspil district, Kyiv Oblast.
