Where to take a walk with a child in Kyiv

If you are looking for children’s parks in Kyiv or large free playgrounds for a walk, this selection will help you quickly find good options. The list includes Mariinskyi Park, Peizazhna Alley, Kyiv Zoo, the square on Mykhailivska Square, the “Fayna Town” residential quarter, Hydropark, the playground on Solomianska Square, the Hryshko Botanical Garden, Volodymyrska Hill and the playground on Yerevanska Street.

These locations are convenient because they offer not only a play area but also a full family walk. In some places you can combine leisure with views, in others with nature, and in others with additional entertainment for children of different ages.

How to choose a children’s park or playground

When choosing, look not only at the playground itself but also at the space around it. For a short walk it is convenient to choose compact city locations. For longer family leisure, large parks are better, where you can spend several hours combining play, movement, a snack and quiet rest.

You should also consider the child’s age, the availability of shade, open space, benches for parents and additional activities nearby. That is why the selection includes different formats: from central parks to large spaces for the whole family.

Which locations to make a note of

For a walk in the city centre, Mariinskyi Park, Peizazhna Alley, the square on Mykhailivska Square and Volodymyrska Hill are a good fit. If you want to combine a playground with a longer walk, pay attention to Hydropark, the Hryshko Botanical Garden or Kyiv Zoo.

Modern play spaces are of separate interest: the playground on Solomianska Square, the location on Yerevanska Street and the children’s area at “Fayna Town”. Together they show that Kyiv has different formats of family leisure, from classic parks to modern playgrounds with a lot of play elements.

Mariinskyi Park

The park itself is located opposite the Verkhovna Rada building. In addition to picturesque views and beautiful nature, it has a large and free playground. It was restored quite recently, so it has become more modern, brighter and, most importantly, safe, and suits children of any age.

There are rope towers, interesting tunnels and mazes, swings, slides of different heights and educational panels.

Peizazhna Alley

This is a general recreation area for everyone, with a very beautiful landscape and views. The location has a large play area for children. So it is a wonderful place for walks, with an area of almost 1.5 hectares. Children happily look at the interesting wrought-iron benches shaped like crows, cats and rabbits. Here is a separate world with fairy-tale animals, and there is also a mosaic in the shape of a cat, thirty metres in size.

Kyiv Zoo

Located on Peremohy Avenue. Yes, there are ordinary standard playgrounds here with swings, climbing frames, slides, balance beams and carousels. But combining a walk with a visit to the zoo and looking at lions, bears, pelicans and other interesting animals would be the ideal option.

The square on Mykhailivska Square

Located in the Shevchenkivskyi district of the city, it is very cosy there and you can hide from the noise of cars and the frantic pace. The special feature for little ones is that there is a fortress in the shape of a big dragon, which is fun to study and explore, while the parents can rest in peace.

The “Fayna Town” living quarter

In almost all modern residential complexes the playgrounds are intended only for their residents, unlike this complex. It has a wonderful playground that has become its calling card. It is a full-fledged entertainment complex for children with a rope park, and its obstacle course really deserves attention. You will also find trampolines for children and adults, unique and multifunctional slides, and a variety of swings and balance beams. It is located on Salutna Street.

Hydropark

An incredible location on Venetsiiskyi and Dolobetskyi islands between the Dnipro and the Rusanivska Channel. In the warm season a family can spend a whole day in it. Its area is 356 hectares and children really like this park: in addition to a large number of playgrounds there are many rides, and you can ride ponies and horses. There are several beaches, and one of them is specially designed for children. You can rent catamarans, kayaks and boats.

The playground on Solomianska Square

The sponsor of building this children’s area was the Roshen company. You can come here free of charge at any time. It is a small fully fenced play town with tube-shaped slides, many mazes, educational panels, swings and more. Parents can watch the children from comfortable benches opposite.

Hryshko Botanical Garden

It will impress little ones with its beauty, and its size is simply astonishing: there is plenty of room to run around! Getting to know living nature and a variety of rare plants will have a very good effect on development. Although it is a wonderful place for walks in the fresh air, all around the garden there are slides, horizontal bars, swings and play complexes, and above all you can play at being on a railway here. The children are guaranteed to be delighted.

Volodymyrska Hill

This is not only a superb viewing platform in Kyiv but also a whole adventure for little ones. To get up you need to take the funicular, and an amazing journey begins from it. Having reached the place, the children will be very happy: various rides and ladder slides, inflatable slides, electric cars and trampolines await them there. There is also a big sandpit with various interesting features, so children of different ages will have fun.

The playground on Yerevanska Street

Another interesting and cool location where you do not need to pay anything. The new, modern playground will please all the children. It is like a small fairy-tale town with observation towers, climbing frames, slide tubes, snake slides, sandpits and various swings. Even on hot days it is comfortable here, because there are special canopies everywhere.

It can be quite difficult for parents to find good places to entertain their children, even though they live in the capital and a real metropolis. And a place has to be chosen not only to be interesting but also safe. This article will help you save your own time on searching and choose the playground you need, one located not far from home.

Of course, these are far from all the children’s locations in Kyiv, there is an incredibly large number of them, but in the main parks and entertainment centres and play lands, admission is paid. And all the playgrounds listed above are completely free.

What to see after this selection

If you are planning a family holiday not only in Kyiv but also outside the city, it is worth moving on to the Kyiv Region routes section. There you can find ideas for short trips, weekend getaways and locations suitable for a walk with children.

To combine city leisure with a large green area, also pay attention to the VDNH Exhibition Centre. And if you want more nature and open space, it is useful to add the Bucha Municipal Park to your list.
