The cultural and artistic project “The Christmas Tale of the Painted Chest” inspires Ukrainian families to come together under the Christmas star and within the circle of family traditions. We invite you to see folk costumes, woven towels (rushnyky), ritual tableware and many other antiques created by our ancestors, unique in their symbolism, artistic execution and special faithfulness to tradition, which are guardians of our memory and national self-identity.
The author of the exhibition is Oleksandr Olefirenko – a collector and ethnographer. He was born on 10 January 1994 in the town of Hadiach, Poltava Oblast. In 2016 he graduated from the Hadiach College of Culture (now the Ivan Kotliarevskyi Hadiach Professional College of Culture and Arts), specialising in folk art, with a focus on folk singing. Since his school years Oleksandr has been fascinated by the history of his native land and collects antiques – Hadiach shirts, plakhta skirts, Krolevets towels and more.
