The Scythians were the ancestors of modern Ukrainians. Their culture became the prototype for building Ukrainian civilisation. Everyone knows the Scythian stone babas, Scythian gold and Scythian warriors. On a map of 1835, the Bila Tserkva historian Oleksii Starodub noticed burial mounds, which indicates that Scythians were buried on the territory of the city. Today very many Scythian burial mounds (graves) remain in Ukraine, and many of them fall victim to black archaeologists. Interest in the mounds is caused by the Scythians’ love of burying the deceased together with valuable things: jewellery, gold, weapons and more. In Bila Tserkva there is a valuable item – an akinak sword, the Scythians’ most popular weapon, found on our lands at the beginning of the 20th century. The small sculpture is located not far from the place where this exhibit is kept.
