In Slavutych, instead of “street” they say “quarter”. Kyivskyi, Nevskyi, Tbilisskyi, Yerevanskyi, Tallinnskyi, Ryzkyi – they were built from scratch by 8 republics, who came with their own architectural plans and materials.
The Armenians brought pink volcanic tuff and built a fairy-tale pink quarter with open grills. The Georgians took wood for parquet and decorated the balconies with wrought-iron elements. The Estonians built the wooden cottages of my dreams, and the Latvians – duplexes and townhouses. The Azerbaijanis decorated the houses with decorative braids, and the entrance to one of the stairwells with a huge panel covered in green-blue glaze.
