The monument “Attacking Soldier” was erected in 1989 and is one of the main memorial symbols dedicated to the soldiers killed in August–September 1941 in the fierce battle known in history as the Baryshivka Pocket. About 200 soldiers killed in these battles are buried in the mass grave next to the memorial.
The monument stands on a burial mound beneath which lies the soldiers’ mass grave. The sculpture depicts a soldier with a rifle rising in a determined charge. In 2013 a solemn reburial of 24 soldiers killed in September 1941 took place at the memorial; two of them were identified by their personal belongings.
