The Cathedral was founded on July 4, 1994, and was consecrated by Bishop Julian Voronovsky.
Eyewitnesses say that during the solemn ceremony in the sky over the site of the future cathedral St. Andrew's Cross was shone. The building of the church was fast, and on December 13, 1996, Bishop Mikhailo Koltun, the first Exarch of Kyiv-Vyshhorod, ruled in its walls.
Vyshgorod - one of the first cities of Kyiv region, in which at the end of the 1980s a community of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church appeared. The first priest in 1990 became the Greek-Catholic monk of the Studite Order Fr. Valery Shkarubsky.
Due to the absence of the temple worships took place in different places of Vyshhorod: Company of Ukrainian language of T. Shevchenko Prosvita, in private apartments and even in the open air! Therefore, the construction of the temple was the first and most urgent issue of the existence of the Vyshgorod Greek Catholic community.
The plot of land under the temple was allocated in 1991. From then until 2003, when the crosses were raised on the church domes, the construction of the cathedral took place in parallel with the worship. Initially, the services were carried out in the premises of the ground floor, which until then was called in honor of the baptist of Russia, the Apostle Andrew the First Called.
After the construction, the temple was named "The Cathedral of Vyshhorod's Virgin" in honor of the most famous Vyshhorod shrine - the icon of the Virgin Mary. Now the temple is one of the most interesting centers of culture and spiritual life of Vyshhorod. Thanks to the parish Fr. Taras Wallach, who headed the community in November 2011, the parish’s life obtained a new cultural and spiritual meaning.
In October 2018, the IX All-Ukrainian Festival-Competition "Vyshhorod Pokrova" took place here, gathering choral collectives from all over Ukraine.
From 2016, during the All-Ukrainian pilgrimage to the Vyshhorod Icon of the Virgin, pilgrims from different corners of Ukraine come to the Temple of the Mother of God. Solemn events, prayers, meetings and night scouts are held with the participation of His Beatitude Patriarch Sviatoslav, the Father and the Head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, representatives of many dioceses of Ukraine, residents of Vyshgorod and pilgrims from Kyiv, Chernigov, Odessa, Lviv and many other Ukrainian cities and villages.
At the temple there is a Sunday school, festivals are held, prayers in hospitals and orphanages, and trips to Ukraine and Europe are organized.
As noted by Fr. Taras Valah, "... without thinking, we have to do good deeds. <...> Our affairs do not always and do not immediately bring visible fruits ... But do our affairs sincerely and worthily, not looking for some kind of praise or instantaneous visible result. We expect only one - awards from the Lord. "
On June 2, 2015, the Apostolic Penitentiary proclaimed the Cathedral of the Vyshhorod Virgin Mary a vacant place with the right of complete vacations, and the Papal Basilica of Mary the Great proclaimed a spiritual bondage with this temple.
