In 1723–1728, not far from the village of Hodunivka, monks of the Pereiaslav Holy Ascension Monastery founded the village of Lozovyi Yar. By 1730 there were already 30 households here. A church was built in 1736. The present wooden church (probably built on the site of the old one) is about a hundred years old. The church was built in the Cossack architectural style traditional for Yahotyn and neighbouring districts – similar churches are found in the village of Sulymivka and the village of Selyshche (Baryshivka district).
After the war the church was not closed. It was the only active church in the Yahotyn district (within its present boundaries).
The population of the village was 1,248 people in 1989 and only 877 in 2006.
