The exhibition presents the private collection of Viktor Tkachenko – a Doctor of Historical Sciences, ethnographer and researcher of pysanka tradition. According to the owner, the collection was built up over 20 years and today numbers about 100 items. It regionally represents pysanky from the Kyiv region, Western Podillia, the Luhansk region, the Kharkiv region and the Hutsul region. The collection includes original works by Ihor Bodnar, Lesia Turukina, Olha Striliets, Oksana Bilous, Kapitolina Shevchenko, Mariia Hryniuk, Olena Kravchynska, Zoia Stashuk, Lesia Tokarska, Tina Momot, Olha Reveduk, Borys Homoiunov, Inna Forostiuk, Svitlana Zelinska and Viktor Tkachenko.
Visiting the exhibition, you will be able to learn about the different techniques and technologies of making the Easter egg that exist in Ukraine today: wax painting, painted eggs (malovanky), etching, white-on-white etching, painting with coloured wax, beadwork decoration (voskovka), and pysanky made of ceramics and natural stone.
The pysanka is a nationally symbolic emblem of Ukraine known worldwide, which concentrates sacred-mythological, protective and artistic elements and has its roots in the pre-Christian past. Its ornament was believed to carry hidden knowledge-messages from the past, where each image has its own meaning and a certain combination of signs creates its content, which can be read.
So we invite everyone to visit the exhibition and personally touch the sacred world of our ancestors.
