Bila Tserkva is a city of Cossack glory. According to local historians, there could hardly have been a hetman in Ukraine who had not been to Bila Tserkva. For some it was a home, as for the outstanding hetman, our countryman Ivan Mazepa, who had a residence here. So too for Hetman Bohdan Khmelnytsky after the liberation of Ukraine from Poland. There is evidence that Hetman Doroshenko was here, firing festive cannon salvoes on Castle Hill. The symbol of hetman power – the bulava – is one of our sculptures, an indispensable attribute of memory of Cossack history. It is located at one of the places of present-day authority.
