About

The Mykola Pymonenko Museum in the village of Maliutianka is an art and memorial museum, opened in 1997 for the 135th anniversary of the birth of the outstanding Ukrainian painter. The museum was built on the site of the artist’s studio, where he worked for almost 20 years.

The museum’s exhibition introduces visitors to the life and creative path of the artist: copies of paintings, documents, ethnographic materials, household items and family archives of the Pymonenko family are kept here.

Mykola Pymonenko first visited Maliutianka as a child, helping his father paint the village chapel and the church in the town of Boyarka. Later, after studying at the Imperial Academy of Arts in St Petersburg, the artist returned here to recover his health and set up his own studio in the village. From 1888 to 1912 the Pymonenko family spent almost every summer in Maliutianka. It was here that the famous canvases “Christmas Fortune-Telling”, “Harvest in Ukraine”, “Before the Storm”, “Wedding in the Kyiv Province”, “Geese, Go Home!” and many others were created.

The museum is an important cultural centre of the Boyarka community and a venue for artistic and educational events.
