About

The idea of creating a private museum of history and local lore in the village belongs to the village’s Honorary Resident Oleksandr Vasyliovych Pinchuk, a great admirer of the antiquities and history of his native land.

Oleksandr Vasyliovych spent almost 10 years collecting materials for the museum’s exhibition and continues the search today. His sources of information have been conversations with residents of Bohdanivka and the surrounding villages, especially with long-livers and veterans, as well as archival documents and library materials gathered not only in the village but also in St Petersburg, Kyiv, Poltava and many other cities.

The museum of Bohdanivka, housed in a former kindergarten building, opened on 19 October 2013. The event was timed to the 100th anniversary of the birth of the famous fellow villager, World War II hero and pilot Mykhailo Bondarenko.

The museum’s four halls – everyday life, World War II, agriculture and the present day – hold more than 2,000 exhibits, and the collection continues to grow with new finds.

Since the museum’s founding, Oleksandr Pinchuk has held the competition “Her Majesty Bohdanivka” every year to encourage fellow villagers to study the history of their native land.
