About event

The Saksahansky Theatre invites you to an exquisite “French Dinner”. Marc Camoletti’s comedy, staged by Oleksandr Holubenko, will appeal even to the most demanding gourmets.

“The French Dinner” is one of those plays that knows no borders and lives on the stages of five continents, arousing the envy of playwrights and directors and winning stormy applause from audiences. It entered the Guinness Book of Records as one of the longest-running plays on the French stage. And no wonder, since Marc Camoletti (1923-2003) became a classic of French theatre of the second half of the 20th century during his lifetime. The play will appeal to those who value witty jokes and intriguing moments, as well as to those who like to watch characters reveal themselves in the course of the action. In addition, the play is interesting from the point of view of its characters: how helpless they were at the beginning and how sincere at the end. And credit must be given to the cast, who conveyed the mood of the play, the characters, their emotions and experiences wonderfully. Camoletti is a brilliant heir to the traditions of French comedy, and his “French Dinner” is a classic example of a comedy of situations on the verge of farce. The whole intrigue is built on marital infidelities and endless misunderstandings.

The action takes place on the evening before a weekend not far from Paris, in the house of a French family that used to be a farm and where the rooms still have strange names: the pigsty and the cowshed. It is here that all the events that began with a completely banal family affair will unfold…
