The exhibition of the Historical Museum of the Vyshhorod Historical and Cultural Reserve is devoted to the archaeological heritage of the Vyshhorod district, starting from the Palaeolithic.
A historical and archaeological legacy unique in its composition and diversity, collected over almost a hundred years through the efforts of many scholars – archaeologists, historians, museum workers and local historians – became the basis of the collection of the Vyshhorod Historical and Cultural Reserve, presented in the Historical Museum. Today the main part of this collection is shown to visitors: a spindle whorl of the 11th century, fragments of a Scandinavian fibula of the first half of the 10th century, a horse harness plaque – a reshma – of the 11th–13th centuries, a folding pectoral cross – an encolpion – of the 10th century, an egg made of deer antler of the 11th–12th centuries, the seal of Prince Iziaslav Yaroslavych of the 11th–12th centuries, Scythian arrowheads of the 1st millennium BC, and the wall panel “Ancient Vyshhorod of the 12th–13th Centuries” made by the Honoured Artist of Ukraine Henri Yahodkin.
At present the museum is located in the “Kliukva” House, which has great historical significance, since today this architectural structure is the only brick building in the city with a history of more than 100 years. The residential house, at that time in the village of Vyshhorod, was built in an architectural style with elements of neo-Renaissance, which was characteristic mostly of urban private buildings of the early 20th century. It was built in 1905 by Ivan Fedorovych Shkolnyi, a manager of state estates and a former military man. In 1995 the house was transferred to the Vyshhorod Historical and Cultural Reserve. Now the Historical Museum of the reserve is located here. In the Kliukva House stands a sculpture of Anna Yaroslavna – one of five in Europe.
