An exhibition, “The Ukrainian Song – a Treasure of the People”, has opened at the K. H. Stetsenko Memorial Museum (Kyiv Oblast communal institution), presenting collections of works by Ukrainian composers, scores of Stetsenko’s arrangements of folk songs, concert programmes, periodicals and compact discs with recordings of works by national artists.
The folk song is a treasury of song creativity, a priceless heritage of the people, an expression of its interests, history and culture. Folk music and song were a life-giving source of inspiration for composers of the 19th–20th centuries. They played a decisive role in the life and work of K. H. Stetsenko. During his life Stetsenko taught many people to love and value, collect and perform folk songs. The composer saw in the folk song the highest artistic treasure, a highly artistic reflection of the life, everyday customs, character, psychology and worldview of the people.
“The Ukrainian song,” wrote K. H. Stetsenko, “… will tell the people who they are…, will tell their history, their past, what heroes they had, who they were: Khmelnytsky, Doroshenko, Nalyvaiko, Zaliznyak, Honta, and others… they will learn and take to heart the spirit of liberty and freedom…”.
We invite you to get better acquainted with the achievements of Ukrainian musical culture at the K. H. Stetsenko Memorial Museum.
