The first church in Tsybli was built in the 18th century. The brick Church of St Elijah was erected in 1861 at the expense of collegiate secretary Kyrylo Oplachko.
Stylistically, the church in Tsybli is very similar to the Church of Saints Boris and Hlib in Vyshhorod. It was built following a standard design for churches developed by the architect Konstantin Thon.
The church had features of the Pskov-Novgorod architectural style with classical decorative elements and five onion-shaped domes. A bell tower with a tent-shaped top was attached to the church. The domes were gilded. Inside the church stood a three-tier iconostasis.
