For International Museum Day, on Vyshyvanka Day, the Rzhyshchiv Archaeological and Local History Museum invites you to a special event — a solo exhibition of works by Halyna Sevruk, “Graphics of the Soul, Geometry of Memory”.
Halyna Sevruk’s work is a combination of art, history and the Ukrainian code. In her works the artist used geometric ornaments, symbols of traditional culture, images of Cossacks, Proto-Slavic motifs and female figures echoing Ukraine’s embroidered heritage.
Halyna Sevruk is a Ukrainian ceramicist, sculptor and artist of the Sixtiers generation, whose art became a symbol of indomitability. Her works are exhibited in many countries of the world, and the artist herself suffered political repression because of her civic stance and her art.
For the Sixtiers generation the vyshyvanka was not only traditional clothing but also a symbol of freedom, self-identity and cultural resistance. That is why combining Halyna Sevruk’s exhibition with Vyshyvanka Day is deeply symbolic and extremely relevant today.
The exhibition will open on 21 May at 13:00 at the Rzhyshchiv Archaeological and Local History Museum.
We invite you to join an event that reveals the power of Ukrainian art, memory and tradition through the works of an outstanding artist.
