The Irpin Literary Mural is the longest in Ukraine and one of the longest literary murals in the world. The mural is located near Irpin’s Central Square.
At one “table” in the mural, 14 outstanding Ukrainian writers from different eras have gathered: Taras Shevchenko, Ivan Franko, Lesya Ukrainka, Olha Kobylianska, Ivan Nechui-Levytskyi, Oles Honchar, Lina Kostenko, Dmytro Pavlychko, Mykola Bazhan, Oleksandr Dovzhenko, Mykola Khvylovyi, Volodymyr Vynnychenko, Andrii Malyshko, Mykhailo Kotsiubynskyi.
The author of the mural is the artist Kateryna Vedmid, who is also the author of two more murals in Irpin – to the President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola and the world’s largest mural with Taras Shevchenko’s painting “Kateryna”.
The initiator of creating the Irpin Literary Mural was the author of the book “The Battle for Irpin” Petro Shcherbyna. His idea was supported by the Irpin construction company – the “Vidvazhnykh” (Brave Ones) Company and its founder, chairman of the Irpin Investment Council Volodymyr Karpliuk.
Let us recall that Irpin is a recognised capital of Ukrainian literature. Malyshko, Bazhan, Sosiura, Vyshnia, Dovzhenko, Tychyna, Honchar, Oliinyk, Pavlychko and Voronko lived and worked in Irpin? Where exactly in Irpin Maksym Rylskyi, Lina Kostenko, Leonid Pervomaiskyi, Mykhailo Stelmakh, Hryhorii Kochur and Dmytro Palamarchuk lived. Mykola Nosov wrote “The Adventures of Dunno and His Friends” from the stories of children who played on the streets of Irpin. Pavlo Zahrebelnyi wrote his “Roxolana” in Irpin. And it is in Irpin that there are the Writers’ House of Creativity, the Monument to the Author, the Writers’ Park, the wooden sculpture of the Reader, the Square of Creative Spirit and the monument to the young Taras Shevchenko. Every year the largest literary prize in Ukraine by prize fund, the Irpin Literary Prize, is awarded here.
