The Kobzar Art Museum was opened in March 1989 to mark the 175th anniversary of the birth of T.H. Shevchenko.
The museum shows the history of the origin and development of kobzar art and its modern directions – traditional folk-folklore and stage-academic. The exhibition presents unique documentary and material items from the history of kobzar art, artworks devoted to this phenomenon, and the musical and poetic creations of kobzars (242 exhibits of the main collection in all, including 26 banduras). The oldest musical instruments attract attention – whistles, toys and a small bell of the 11th–13th centuries, and gusli from the excavations of ancient Novgorod.
