In the village of Hnativka stands the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, built in 1905.
In the 19th century Hnativka did not have its own church and belonged to the parish of the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Horenychi. In 1905 a cemetery church (in effect a large cemetery chapel) was built in the village.
In Soviet times the church was plundered and a large breach was made in it. When the church resumed its activity, the breach was eliminated and the entrance to the crypt was put in order.
In 2013 a memorial plaque was ceremonially unveiled on the church wall in memory of the momentous event that took place in Hnativka on 9 February 1918. On that day in Hnativka, under the leadership of the acting Minister of War Oleksandr Zhukivskyi, all available troops were reorganised into the Separate Zaporizhzhia Detachment – this is how the first regular armed formation of the Ukrainian People’s Republic was formed.
Today the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary is in good condition and is the spiritual centre of Hnativka.
