A unique monument to the young Taras Shevchenko stands on the grounds of Yahotyn Lyceum No. 3. The poet was usually depicted as an elderly revolutionary and rebel, not as a young, energetic, inspired man. People’s Artist of Ukraine Ivan Honchar created an image of the poet at about the age at which he first arrived in Yahotyn – 29.
The history of the monument’s erection is quite dramatic. Despite all kinds of obstacles, thanks to the efforts of enthusiasts over several years, in 1971 the monument to T. Shevchenko took its place in the school yard, and now it is simply impossible to imagine Yahotyn without it.
