In honour of the 100th anniversary of Taras Shevchenko’s last visit to Yahotyn, at the request of the public the bust of the poet was created by the Yahotyn artist Mykola Malynka. The monument “from the people”, which was legalised only some 20 years later, was installed in 1959 in the square near the Yahotyn City House of Culture.
Since then the people of Yahotyn have celebrated the Kobzar’s birthday here every year.
